# Continue after a failed generation

After generation fails, use the execution card to read the cause and inspect any saved work. When Continue repair is available, it uses the original request and recoverable progress to address the remaining work.

## Choose the next step for your task state

| Card state | What to do |
| ------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| Generation failed with Continue repair | Read the cause and continue the original task |
| Draft saved with Retry from draft | Inspect the saved result, then follow the draft retry flow |
| Generation stopped with Continue generation | Continue when you still want to finish the request |

This article covers continuing a failed task. For the other flows, see [Understand drafts, check results, and unverified items](https://ideamade.ai/help/drafts-and-checks) and [Stop generation and continue a task](https://ideamade.ai/help/stop-and-continue).

## Inspect the failure and retained version

1. Find the failed execution in the conversation and read the unfinished steps and specific message.
2. Check the current editing version at the top to see whether it is still the version from before this execution.
3. Inspect the previously saved content in Preview. If the canvas is blank, use **Refresh** in the canvas toolbar.

The example request changes the client list’s empty-results message. Execution failed before saving, leaving v14 as the editing version and the existing client available.

## Continue from the failed card

1. Keep the app version used when the task started and confirm that you still want to finish the request.
2. Choose **Continue repair** on the failed card.
3. Follow the new execution progress. When it finishes, read the result and inspect the saved version.

If the app version or the Blueprint used for initial generation has changed, make a new request based on the current app. Describe what to preserve and what needs repair, then review and apply the plan.

## Repeat the original action after saving

When execution saves successfully, check the new version and the actual page. In this example:

1. Confirm that the current editing version is now v15.
2. In **Preview**, enter a search that matches no client.
3. Check for “No clients found. Try another search or status filter.”
4. Choose **Clear search** and confirm that the existing client reappears.

_The repaired version shows the updated message. Choose Clear search to return to the client list._

After checking the repair, follow [Restore versions and publish your app](https://ideamade.ai/help/versions-and-publishing) to publish the update. Earlier saved versions remain available in Version history.

## If the work is still unfinished

Read the new task result. If a draft was saved, try the retained work and follow the draft’s guidance. If execution fails again, add the affected page, reproduction steps, expected result, and actual result, then narrow the change or contact support.

If the card has no Continue repair action, make a specific request based on the current saved version. A new request also lets you continue a consultation, plan preparation, or task with no recoverable progress.

## Common questions

### How do I find my earlier work after a failure?

Open Version history to view saved versions. A published app remains available to users at its production address.
