# Request changes to your app

Describe what you want to change in the Builder conversation. IdeaMade uses your current app as context. This guide covers feature changes, edits to a selected component, and repairs, so you can turn an idea into a clear request.

## Before you start

Open a project with a generated version. Check that you are previewing the version you intend to keep editing.

If Builder says you are viewing a historical version, select **Return to current version**. To continue from the older version instead, restore it from version history first. See [Restore versions and publish your app](https://ideamade.ai/help/versions-and-publishing).

Creating a change plan, applying changes, and making repairs use Credits. See [usage records](https://ideamade.ai/help/usage-and-balance) for your balance and each task’s cost.

## Make the request specific

The screenshots use Client Notes. This app opens client details in a drawer from the list, so the example explicitly includes both the drawer and the details page.

A useful request usually explains three things: where to make the change, the result you want, and what should stay the same.

| What you want to do | Example request |
| ------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Add a feature | Add a follow-up status filter above the client list, with All, To contact, In progress, and Won. Keep name search available after filtering, and preserve the existing sort order. |
| Adjust a layout | The client details page feels crowded. Separate basic details and follow-up records into two areas with more space between them. Keep all fields and existing actions. |
| Change a rule | Require a client name before saving. If it is empty, show a message next to the name field and keep the other information already entered. |
| Fix a problem | I change a client’s follow-up status and save it, but the list still shows the old status. I expect the list to show the saved value. Please investigate and fix it. |

Keep each request focused on a clear goal so you can check the result. When several pages need to work together, such as adding a field and filtering the list by it, describe the related changes in one request.

You can also ask about the app before deciding what to change. For example: “What follow-up statuses does the app currently support? Explain the current behavior first.”

## Submit a feature change

1. Open the relevant page in Builder and check the page or component context shown in the conversation.
2. If you want to change a whole page or workflow, clear any component selection that is unrelated to that goal.
3. Enter your request and select **Send request**.

   > Client details feel crowded. Separate basic information and follow-up information into two sections with more space between them. Keep all existing fields and actions. Apply this to the detail drawer opened from the client list as well as the client details page.

_Before sending, check the page context, intended change, and what should stay the same._

4. Read the response. Answer any clarification questions. If a change plan appears, select **View full changes**.
5. Check the proposed changes, affected scope, assumptions, and points to review.
6. When you are ready, select **Apply this plan**.

If the plan needs adjustment, select **Revise plan** and explain what should change. For example:

> Keep the two sections and spacing changes in both detail views. Do not add fields or a follow-up log. Keep the list and all existing save behavior.

If you no longer want the plan, select **Discard plan**. You can then submit a new request.

## Change one component

Selecting a component is useful for a specific interface adjustment, such as button text, a local color, or spacing.

1. Open the target page in the current version.
2. Switch the canvas to **Edit** and select the component.
3. Check that the selected component shown in the conversation is the one you intended.
4. Describe the change and send it. For example: “Change this button’s text to ‘Create client’ and keep its click behavior.”
5. Wait for the result to be saved, then switch back to **Preview** to check its appearance and behavior.

An edit to a selected component can start directly. For right-click editing and deletion, see [Choose a page or component to change](https://ideamade.ai/help/select-components).

[![The selected button appears in the conversation context in Edit mode. Check the target before sending.](https://ideamade.ai/help/en/component-selection.jpg)](https://ideamade.ai/help/en/component-selection.jpg)

The page label tells AI which page you are discussing, while a component selection identifies a specific element. For a color request, say whether you mean the app’s overall theme, one page, or the selected button.

## Add an image for context

Paste or drag a screenshot or reference image into the conversation. Wait for it to finish preparing, then send it with your description.

Explain which part of the image matters. For example:

> Use the information grouping and spacing in this image for the client details page. Keep our current colors and all fields.

Reference images help explain a layout, style, or problem. To display the image itself in the app, describe its purpose and location, such as “Use this image as a banner at the top of the home page.”

[![Once the reference image is ready, send it with the grouping, spacing, and details you want to preserve.](https://ideamade.ai/help/en/reference-image.jpg)](https://ideamade.ai/help/en/reference-image.jpg)

_Once the reference image is ready, send it with the grouping, spacing, and details you want to preserve._

## Review the result

Once the result is saved, switch the canvas to **Preview** and check it against your request:

1. Find the new feature or changed area.
2. Complete a relevant action, such as filtering by status, searching for a client, or saving a form.
3. Check the outcome and the features you asked to preserve.

If you see “Some checks remain unverified,” open the details and include the relevant features in the checks above. See [Understand drafts, check results, and unverified items](https://ideamade.ai/help/drafts-and-checks) for the check types and next steps.

If something still needs attention, describe the specific result in your next message:

> The status filter is there, but choosing “Won” still shows clients with other statuses. Keep the current layout and fix the filtering.

If the app is already live, publish again when you want users to receive the updated version.

## Common questions

### Why do some requests get an answer, others get a plan, and others start changing the app?

Builder handles questions, regular changes, and repairs according to the request. An edit to an explicitly selected component can run directly. Regular feature changes provide a plan for review. If the response misunderstands your goal, clarify it before proceeding.

### How do I go back to the version before a change?

Open version history, preview the target version, then restore it as the current editing version. To return live users to an older version as well, continue with live rollback. See [Restore versions and publish your app](https://ideamade.ai/help/versions-and-publishing) for the steps.
